The Western Portrait & Figure Group was formed in 1988 to promote photography of the nude in a creative and congenial atmosphere. Its goals are to encourage the exchange of information, the sharing of ideas and portfolios, and to facilitate work between models and photographers. WPFG members pursue a number of photographic styles including portrait, fashion, glamour and figure work. Skill levels range from enthusiastic novices to semi-professional. The group operates through hands-on participation by members. Activities are planned by one or more members in ad hoc fashion. Officer duties are rotated among the membership.

Membership Cost

The $50 annual dues covers the cost of the Website and incidental expenses associated with running the organization. Photo shoot costs are generally $60. A small studio fee may be added for some shoots.

Group Communications

The Group uses e-mail and its private Website for all communications. The private Website contains messages, meetings notes, and photographs taken by members.

Meetings

The Group has four informal gatherings each year to let members and models get acquainted, display prints, review the model portfolio, plan photo sessions, and conduct business.

Group Photo Shoots

Scheduled periodically, group shoots generally feature one model at a scenic location or in a studio. Generally, three photographer members plus the shoot host attend. The photographer-to-model ratio is kept low to give everyone a chance to direct the poses and pursue their creative ideas. Group shoots are a good way for less-experienced members to learn by working alongside experienced photographers. It's also a good way to meet other members, exchange information, and set up one-on-one photo sessions. Photos taken at WPFG events are covered by a WPFG Model Release that excludes mass commercial distribution of any type unless the model signs a separate, specific release.

Special Activities

Once a year our normal meeting is replaced by a dinner to allow photographers and models to socialize.
